through your eyes

“Through your eyes” it's a spectacle multidisciplinary of sound, light, dance and multimedia, originally presented as an immersive installation in the Sala Blanca of the Laboratorio de las Artes de Valladolid (LAVA) following an artist residency in February 2013. In 2014, an adapted version for Italian theatres (conventional stage) was developed. The work also functions as a retrospective of Alicia Soto's career, bringing together concepts and ideas that the choreographer has been exploring for years - for example, breaking the "fourth wall", choreographic creation from multimedia elements and the incorporation of text with a critical purpose. It is especially designed for young audience (adolescents from 15 years old) although open to spectators of all ages, and seeks a contemporary language that integrates funk/popping dance with contemporary dance, new creations alongside pre-existing ones, and interaction with the audience, all supported by a stage design and lighting with great dramatic weight.

Synopsis

Through the intimate and personal look of each one of us, reality is transformed, our unconscious afora, unpredictable and with surprises, dragging us into a dream world of images and emotions.
The viewer begins a journey, from consciousness and through the visual impact, always from the image. You will have to choose at a given moment if you drop from reality or continue a journey through your imagination.

"Through your eyes" is a multidisciplinary show of sound, light, dance and multimedia, presented as an installation in the white room of LAVA (Laboratory of the Arts of Valladolid) after an artist residency in February 2013.

In 2014 we presented its version for halls or theaters in the Italian style.

"Through your eyes" is presented as a retrospective of the artistic work of Alicia Soto, where concepts and ideas that she has been developing for several years come together: breaking the fourth wall for the viewer, choreographic creation from multimedia and importance of the text as a means of criticism.

Presented in a modern language and aimed at young adolescents, in "Through your eyes" the language of funky and popping converge with contemporary dance, new choreographic creations along with other existing ones and interaction with the public, where the scenery and light play an important role.

Destined to :

  • Teenage public (ages between 15 and 18 years old)
students of: 3rd and 4th of ESO, 1st and 2nd of Bachiller and FP
  • And public not so young

A show by the Alicia Soto-Hojarasca Company, in collaboration with Lava (Laboratory of the Arts of Valladolid) and co-produced by the Municipal Foundation of Culture of the Valladolid City Council.

The show is divided into two parts:

The first part:
the observation
"Through your eyes" is a multidisciplinary show of light, sound, dance and multimedia.

Its scenic and sound presentation conveys emotions and sensations, based on the impact on the retina and the imagination.

This image, accompanied by sound, generates emotions that in the course of the work reach a meaning, the same for everyone. From the state of the unconscious to the conscious.

We are in a society whose main language of communication is the image and its means of transmission is technology.

With the help of new technologies, the creation from multimedia, that emotional state is achieved, having as a starting point, the concept of reality-fiction, which in some cases touches on illusionism, allowing our visitors to participate actively, both physically as well as intellectually.

Our visitors will be made to understand that there is no fourth wall, since the action takes place throughout the stage space, from the stalls to the stage. However, some rules of the game will be set to enjoy that freedom, since there is a commitment to travel and participate collectively with colleagues.

In this journey, the artistic work delves into: fear, the struggle for liberation and love. Three states that mark and define the path of our life.

The second part:
The participation.
Development of the pedagogical activity:

From the dialogue and establishing a dialectic with the group, the result of what was lived and experienced in the first part will be considered.

This part is the same for both school functions and functions open to the general public.

Press reviews

By: Fernando Herrero

«Game of spaces to which the public moves. Interesting from the different perspectives of the gaze, of the body of spectators in relation to the videos and the bodies of two performers, Alicia Soto and a dancer... Three episodes and an end. With a highly nuanced play of light, the bodies move forcefully in the turns, with elegance in the postures, the clash of him and her is magnificent, as a form of union. At this point, Soto confirms his class[…]»
