On ropes It is the second live dance and music concert project that choreographer Alicia Soto has been carrying out with different musicians since 2019. piano and dance concert, performed together with the pianist Helena Reis, was the first proposal in this series of creative investigations on contemplation.

On ropes It is a sound installation in performance format of two characters wrapped in a world of sound and movement whose leitmotif is to loosen knots. An emotional journey that can raise questions and will establish a crazy and creative conversation between the musician, the dancer and the audience. A unique and unrepeatable emotional sound experience that connects you with yourself.

INSPIRATION

If we think about the idea of entanglement, an image crosses our mind, that of large knots present on a long rope that invite to be discovered. For us, these knots, which appear to us in different forms, attract us irremediably and, at the same time, transport us to the striking sailor knots and, by extension, to the sea, whose sounds and movements have always served as a source of artistic inspiration for us. . We think of that poem by Fernando Pessoa called Ode Maritima. Strings are also fundamental elements in music due to their presence in multiple formats in dozens of instruments.

A CONVERSATION TO THREE

The show creates a state of intimacy and proximity cultivated by musical and corporal sound that allows the audience to participate in this conversation. In the conversation between the musician and the dancer, first of all the audience is in a state of contemplation of a sound journey and a fresh and unpredictable somatic movement. The audience's intervention in the conversation begins emotionally and will continue with active participation in the development of what will happen in the performance, even going so far as to alter the initial stage space, creating a choreographic score of chairs.
